In an effort to create more liberal and democratic societies, Europeans organized a series of revolts occurred across the continent in 1848. Also known as the Revolutions of 1848, this series of political rebellions attempted to move beyond the old monarchical structures of society. Broad coalitions were formed among middle and lower classes, however the revolts did not last long and were quashed relatively quickly.
