Matteo Salvini barred from power

In August 2019, Matteo Salvini, leader of the Italian populist party the League and then Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, was barred from power. The Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement formed a coalition government which overthrew the League’s power and suggested shifting political allegiances in Italy.
