Introduction of the Euro

Fulfilling a goal originally proposed in the League of Nations in 1929, European Union leaders created a unified currency in 1999 when they introduced the Euro. By 2002, Euro coins and notes began to circulate across member states and individual national currencies slowly became obsolete.
